What types of Claude artifacts can I host?
Any artifact that outputs HTML works: portfolio websites, landing pages, interactive calculators, budget trackers, data visualization dashboards, quiz tools, countdown timers, contact pages, documentation, style guides, and single-page applications. React-based artifacts need an extra step (ask Claude for a self-contained HTML version). The most common artifacts to host are personal sites, interactive tools, and client-facing landing pages.
Do I need a Claude account to view the hosted website?
No. That's the whole point of hosting. When you share a Claude artifact link, the recipient needs Claude access to view it. When you upload the artifact to Static.app, the HTML becomes a standard publicly accessible website. Anyone with the URL can visit it in any browser on any device. The hosted version is completely independent of Claude and your Claude subscription.
Why not just share the Claude conversation link?
Claude links require the viewer to have Claude access. Hosted sites work for everyone, have custom domains, are indexed by Google, and include forms and analytics.
Where are Claude artifacts stored?
Artifacts live inside your Claude conversation. They're tied to that specific chat and don't exist as independent files unless you explicitly download them. If you delete the conversation or your Claude subscription lapses, the artifact goes with it. Uploading the HTML to Static.app creates an independent copy on a web server. The hosted version persists regardless of what happens to your Claude account or conversation history.
What happens when I publish a Claude artifact?
Claude doesn't have a built-in publish feature that publishes artifacts to a public URL. The 'share' option creates a conversation link that requires Claude access. To make an artifact publicly available as a website, download the HTML file and upload it to Static.app. Once hosted, it becomes a regular website indexed by search engines, accessible to anyone, and manageable through your Static.app dashboard.
Can visitors interact with the artifact?
Yes, fully. All JavaScript in the artifact executes in the visitor's browser. Calculators process inputs, form fields accept data, charts animate, sliders slide, tabs switch. If you added the static-form attribute to a form element, submissions are captured in your Static.app dashboard. The artifact behaves exactly as it did in the Claude preview, except now anyone can access it without a Claude account.
Do Claude artifacts with React components work?
Claude's React artifacts run in a sandboxed environment. To host them, ask Claude to generate a self-contained HTML version with inline JavaScript instead of JSX components.
Do Claude Code outputs work?
Claude Code generates full project files. If the output is static HTML/CSS/JS, upload directly. If it's a React/Vue project, run the build command first, then upload the output.
Can I combine multiple artifacts into one website?
Yes. Save each artifact as a separate HTML file (index.html, about.html, tools.html), put them all in one folder, ZIP, and upload. Each file becomes a page on your website.
Can I use Claude to update my hosted website?
Yes. Paste your current HTML into Claude, ask for changes, download the updated artifact, and re-upload. Or edit directly in the browser code editor for small changes.
Can I make my artifact a Progressive Web App?
Yes. Ask Claude to include a service worker file and a web manifest (manifest.json) in your artifact. Download both files along with the HTML. Upload them together to Static.app. Visitors can then install your artifact as an app on their phone or desktop. The service worker can cache pages for offline use, and the manifest controls the app name, icon, and splash screen.
